We had inspection last week. Our lawyer called sellers lawyer and told them things we wanted fixed. Well, that was 5 days ago and our lawyer and realtor has not heard from them. Can they be getting other offers or backing out?

It should all be spelled out in the contract. But if you are asking for repairs they can generally say no and then you have to decide if you still want it.

Really, if you have a lawyer and you are asking this on a message board you may need a new lawyer.

Agree with manderly6, your lawyer should be the one answering this question. Most contracts (even the generic contracts used by realtors) have the inspection clause. Your lawyer would have amended the contract and added addition contingencies. If he has done his job well, you should be able to walk away without issues if the seller declines to fix or compensate for the issues reported on the inspection report.

It wouldn't surprise me. Under the circumstances of this particular deal, the sellers would be very smart to do just that

Huh. So you think we are wrong to ask for some money to fix the major things in this house? We are paying top dollar for a house that needs a lot of cosmetic work. I dont think its wrong when paying 700k for a house to ask that the heat and ac wont die on us within a year.
Maybe you are one of these people trying to sell a house who thinks their house is worth more than it is

The Realtor should not be pointing out areas of concern, that is the inspector's job. This is why the buyer looks at the house and makes an offer on what they see. If the buyer did not realize the boiler was past it's usefull life, then the buyer can try to negotiate.

To answer your question, Are the sellers contiuing to market the property? That is very unethical to do, once an offer has been accepted. (Unless this is a short sale) [Against our code of ethics.]

I know situations where the seller walked. They thought they could do better and the buyers demands were out of line or just more than they wanted to deal with.This is especially likely if other offers appear likely.

Sometimes buyers want a new house when buying a used house. Not saying that is the case here, just sayin'

Is the realtor providing a warranty on mechanicals and appliances (typically 1 year)? It is sometimes done to help the deal along.

Thank you for your response. As far as we can tell, they are not marketing the house but we are confused as to why they have not responded either way to our request. Are they able to change their minds with a signed contract in place?

Just because you haven't beard it doesn't mean they won't respond. They probably will. There are many reasons it could take a few days.

Ask your attorney, even your realtor, or hang in there.
