Default How bad is traffic in the Turnpike from 14 to Englewood Cliffs?

I'm looking at a possible morning commute from exit 14 (78 East, coming from the Parkway in Union) to exit 17 then on 46 to Lemoine and then to Englewood Cliffs. Google Local says it's 36 minutes, but how bad is that really going to be in AM traffic? I'm not sure if I'd need to be arriving at 8 or 9 just yet - still evaluating.

Compared to a train from Union to Newark than Newark to NY with a three block walk, it seems like it'd be equal in time but I'd be driving vs. riding. I'm pretty sure that public transit options won't exist, anyone have any input or experience on that stretch of roadway and its commute in the AM and PM?

when it comes to transit ur way off its doable easily a rail pass to NYP works on all NJT services even buses. SO its actually a little faster cause the bus has its own lane. all u need is 114 to NY PABT then run up to 167 to tryon ave and teaneck rd where an 186 will take you to englewood cliffs in a few mins. All the buses mentioned are express buses and the 114 has HOV bypass immunity and the 167 is a demon on the NJTK!!!!! for you its easy. Or if you did train you would have to go to secaucus to get trains to new bridge landing where you take 756 then 186 to shorten travel time. Thats option #2 the train. Option #1 bus only (highway buses) 3 and all thats needed is a bus pass to NY from union as that same pass will work on all the buses you will need to take anyway. O dont be fooled by the transfers needed due to rush hour all the buses you need are running very frequently. Also if you time em right they will be much faster than driving through HELL on 95. If you know what I mean. The transit options I gave are faster than they appear dont be fooled by transfers.

I can tell you the traffic northbound at the Exit 16/18E exit (Secaucus) in the morning best backed up from traffic brearing off towards the Lincoln tunnel (Rt. 495E). I'd say stasy on the western spur if heading up to Englewood.

The 114 bus is hell on earth. It's always been standing room only and the road is extremely curvy, bumpy, and stop-and-go. It has always been stuck on traffic.

I'm looking for opinions on the drive... like rscalzo's.

So I'd stay on the western spur and take 80 east where it hits the Turnpike? That makes sense. How bad is 80E to Lemoine/GWB in the AM?

Not from where you are taking it. You are actually taking it just before it hits the highway. O and with ur times you are basically on an express variant I know how 114 works. The 114 you will be stuck with is an express variant called 117 or 114X so the slow part of the 114 you wont be dealing with
