Hi:

I plan on moving down to Florida from NJ. I am currently collecting NJ State UNemployment Benefits. My question is will my weekly benefit amount remain the same even though I am moving to FL? Please note:

1. I have ONLY worked in New Jersey for the last 10 years straight.
2. I am currently receiving the maximum given by NJ ($598.00 per week)
3. I would like to know if the $598.00 will remain the same throughout my entire unemployment claim including Extended Benefits (EB)?
4. I have tried looking on both the NJ and FL Unemployment website.,but there is NO information surrounding this specific question.

**I do plan on looking for full-time work once down there, but for planning/financial purposes I would like to know this answer.

Many thanks for any and all help.

Jennifer

I wouldn't take any chances, call them and ask. There might be some special form to fill out or something.

OCNJGIRL.....I did talk to an unemployment representative in the Toms River, NJ office on Hooper Avenue. She stated it would stay the same in terms of $$$ amount....but I have nothing in writing, and see nothing on the NJ DOL website and there is nothing in the blue unemployment handbook...so now I am nervous and there are so many naysayers out there...

I googled "what happens if I move while collecting NJ unemployment and found this:

Q. What should I do if I move?

A. If you move while claiming benefits, you may report your new address and new telephone number when you claim benefits on the Internet, by telephone, or by mail. If you worked in New Jersey and have relocated to another State, you must file a claim against New Jersey. You may file your claim by calling the New Jersey claims office that handles out-of-state claims at 1-888-795-6672.

If you move out-of state while you are claiming benefits, you should immediately telephone 1-888-795-6672 and select the option to file a claim in order to report the address change. An agent will assist you in claiming benefits against New Jersey on an interstate basis. If you move to a neighboring locality in New York, Pennsylvania or Delaware (within commuting distance of New Jersey), you may change your address by telephoning a New Jersey Reemployment Call Center at the regular telephone numbers.

I did this when I moved to Chicago. I didn't have any problems and the amount of money didn't change. I couldn't get through on the phones so i just changed my address in the online weekly claim form. It delayed my payment for a few days then it went through.

Same thing for me. I moved to N.C and changed my address online. The payment was delayed 1 extra day and it stayed the same. Good luck with the move.
