Just wondering how do you guys feel about this new situation brewing in Long Beach Township?

Ridiculous.
Whats next... the Meadowlands only belongs to people that live near East Rutherford in an attempt to control traffic?!?

I think any town that restricts access should get zero dollars from the gov't for anything to do with the beach.

im ok with that. with all the super expensive houses on lbi and the fact that not a lot of people live there, id imagine they should be able to take care of their own beaches.

As someone who has been going to the shore for my entire life, I'll say this. Whether or not there is a price to enter onto the beach, the "Jersey Shore" people will not be kept out. These are kids who live extravagantly, and with prices, you will only be ensuring that these types of people will represent a higher quantity of beachgoers, not ensuring that they stop. At the same time, respectful individuals who look to get away and go to the beach may be hesitant to go to the beach. That being said, if the state can maintain a price ceiling for people to obtain tags or some form of access, i dont see anything wrong with that. With this, taxpayers in the town would be exempt because they are already paying for it, and if kept tastefully and respectably, this could work out for both sides because the town gets money back and beachgoers and daytrippers still get what they want and it doesnt cost them an arm and leg. I'm comparing this situation like that of an amusement park. Kept respectable, and people will still come and everyone is happy.

Nah, East Rutherford isn't wealthy enough to exert that kind of control. Some rich town in NW Bergen County (like Ridgewood) might find a way to seize control and keep the East Rutherford and Carlstadt people out. Heck, they might not even let the people from Rutherford in.
Seriously, the beach situation is ridiculous. It's just another way to impose separation of the classes.

I think it was Ramsey or somewhere that was ID'ing people using their playgrounds a few yrs ago. That didn't pass constitutional muster. I don't see the BS they do at the Shore as being any different. If the beaches are supposed to be open to the public, one could even make the argument that high badge prices are also discriminatory. IIRC we're the only state that charges for the "privilege" of sitting on the beaches we all own.
