So friday (June 24) I was fired, bummer! I filed for unemployment yesterday morning and I have a phone meeting July 13. My friend said i would have to refile today for weekly benefits or i will lose this weeks benefits once and if i am approved on july 13. Is she right? She said i would get a check covering from now until july 13 if i claim weekly. I thought since i filed yesterday i would just have to wait until july 13 for my phone interview. Also, will i find out the day of the interview if i am approved? and how long after that until i recieve money? Sorry if that sounded confusing, this whole unemployment thing is new to me!

Were you laid off or fired? There is very big difference where unemployment is concerned. If you were fired, what was the reason you were let go because that will also affect whether or not you get approved.

I don't think you have to file again now, the payments will be retroactive to the date you were let go. And yes, if you were fired for some reason that is your fault (being late all the time, not doing your work, etc.) there is a good chance you won't get money IF your employer fights you. If you were let go because business was slow or your job was eliminated (not your fault) you'll get money.

You will get paid from the day you filed your claim, if you are approved. So if you filed on 6/28, that will be your claim date. If you were fired, not laid off, you may not be approved for u/e benefits. If you need to, clarify with your former employer what they are going to tell u/e before your phone interview.

The fact that you are having a phone interview means they are questioning some part of your claim. Do not call to claim again. You must wait until your phone interview. If you are approved, you will be paid starting 6/28.
