I don't think that's the reason. I am actually pretty optimistic about AC's future, and to me it isn't a dying dump, there is more to do there than there has been in years. The recent music festival at Badar Field was a huge success (waiting to see what happens with the hip hop festival this weekend ) and I think this is just the beginning. Revel is underway again, smaller "boutique" casino hotels are coming, and some of the existing casinos are undergoing major overhauls (I LOVE the resurgence of the roaring 20's and think the theme is going to pay off big for them) Now they just need to get Miss America back when the current contract ends next year! I think the train is dying because it only ran once or twice a day and was $60 round trip. I looked into it several times to go to NYC and could never work around the sparse schedule.
I would love to see a train throughout the shore towns and to Philly/NYC, however the ACES train was subsidized by the casinos, so that's why "they" didn't make it go anywhere but AC. Why would the casinos want to pay to get people from NYC to Cape May?

NJT could run the Cape May Express , it would be attached to there future Cape May - Philly commuter Rail line.

Let me know who has the petition, I will sign! It would solve so many problems like parking and traffic. I would also go to Philly much more than I do now!

LOL , its a stalled project , but if enough ppl in SJ pushed for it , service could come back. NJT owns the branch , so only a few new things would be needed for service to return.

Awww I love ACES. I've only used it once, but it was so much better than the grimey/schleppy buses. I think this story helps to make the case for:
1. the need to electrify the AC line
2. the idea that if you have fewer than 10 trains/day, you lose your reliability points. One or two trains/day is not an easy thing for people to plan around.
^Of course, I'm making a leap of faith to an assumption that if the thing ran fast and regularly there'd be demand for it.

Not sure why NJ people on this board hate AC so much, I have a great time every time I'm there.

Many think it's largely an eyesore that gets handouts from the state for no good reason. The business model is not good and they've been getting clobbered by neighboring states' casinos
When someone says on these boards that they can fly to Vegas and stay a few nights and it's cheaper than the same stay in AC, there's a problem

nope no one was interested in using a train from NYC to atlantic city now cape may yes as it would almost be same travel time or even faster. Reason bus service to cape may is horrid and the 552 doesn't make good transfers with 319. plus 319 service south to cape may is not good. The cape may line has more potential period.
