Yes. They should get all of that.

And YOU seem like a rodent who would eat his parents the moment they can no longer give you your allowance. Sorry you have no feelings. It must be a horrible existence. Good luck to you, AND more to your parents.

so it would be such a terrible existence for a 80 year old to leave the house and move into a condo. They would come out way ahead in terms of money. But no the seniors need the house so bad that a young family cannot get the house affordably. And when that young family moves in now they are paying extra taxes to take care of the older people.

I wonder if there's a loophole... I would imagine that my parents pull in more than 70k from their pensions + retirement accounts...

Either way, that 70k limit is too low for NJ. 70k is like nothing.

You can't force 80-year olds to move out of their homes any more than you can force child-bearing aged couples to get their tubes tied after having two kids (or whatever number "we" feel is appropriate). That would keep your taxes low and help with the affordability.

My parents enjoy their large house every holiday. It's the hub of family gatherings and only one of two homes in our family that can handle 40 people for an entire long weekend. The other home is too far from most of the family, thus we have it here in NJ. That alone is a reason to hold onto the home.

How is this really stopping a young family from buying an affordable house?

Save your money and buy a house when you can afford one.

What's the need to own a house a Senior C. lives in? Find another one.

if a town has 500 houses and 50 are occupied by people who never leave and pay low taxes can you not think how this stops young families or makes taxes for everyone else higher. Is it not hard.

It doesn't affect other people's real estate taxes. It actually helps younger families in the town, as having older people reduces the burden on the school system.

Not really more kids may mean additional schools which may be good. So it hurts teachers as well and hurts contractors.
