Yes.....years ago it was a family place, boardwalk, rides, restaurants, etc. Oh and of course, the home of our very own Boss, Bruce Springsteen. However, that has all been shut down, torn down and it's become a lost city over the years. It's just a pretty run down area...don't know if they plan to fix it, are trying to fix it or anything else for it's future.

Why are you asking? Planning to visit or possibly move there? Pixieshmoo is 100% correct with the description posted. They have been working on fixing up the area but it's been really slow. New businesses are always opening there but many of them close shortly after because the town is not drawing in many visitors.

Asbury Park has twice the crime rate as newark or paterson. And its more run down then both of them combined. I would say that if your looking for a place to vacation go to Bradley Beach because its right next to Asbury Park so you can shop in asbury park and have the saftey of Bradley Beach.

im pretty sure asbury park is the most run down city in Jersey

It's run down. The newspapers keep saying it is going to come back. Maybe it will, maybe it won't. If it does, it's certainly a great area to invest in - the location is great and there is really no excuse for it to be run down like it is.

Default Its on the rise and I"m buying a home in AP

A diamond in the rough stays in the rough until it is polished. I'm buying a modest home near the beach, near NYC, near Philly, and in a warm and welcoming community.
I'm happy!

I'm glad that you're happy, please report on how happy you are after living there fo awhile, I bet you won't be so charmed by the place.
Asbury Park has a great infrastructure, it's a pretty town especially east of main st., but the inhabitants are what will kill any renaissance. Too many gangstas, crack heads and transvestite prostitutes make for a very ugly urban scene that only the hardiest of pioneers and boosters would tolerate.

I drove through Asbury Park a couple of times on my way to Ocean Grove. It looks pretty run down, and I thought Paterson was bad.

not to turn this into a competition,
asbury park is not a very nice town but it is nowhere near as bad as places like paterson, newark, irvington, e orange, camden, I think you got the picture

you have to take into consideration of small and little population Asbury Park has. It has more violent crimes per square mile than all the cities you just mentions besides irvington and camden. Now that doesnt mean that if you go there you will get shot or mugged. It just means that is Asbury Park were the size and population of Newark or Paterson it would have almost twice the amount of crime. But truthfully oneo f the reasons the criem rate is so high is because its a very small town surrounded by nicer towns so buisness just dont come in.
