Does anyone know if the area of Westfield which borders Garwood is a nice and safe area? Specifically, the area close to the Garwood train station and near 4th Avenue and Chestnut. Thanks.

I really do not see anything wrong with it, I just would not buy there since others do and I would be afraid of property values. The houses seem to be much cheaper over there. Not sure why. I know people in that general area are complaining about having their kids sent to Edison Middle school instead of Roosevelt Middle, but I doubt that is what the problem really is.

There is some low income housing around there, which makes it less desirable.

Thanks. It turns out the house I was thinking about renting for a month is not available. There's a less expensive apartment available in Millburn that I'm looking into but thanks for the information. I appreciate it.

Well, if you're looking for less expensive, Garwood could be a tad less than Cranford and Westfield.

The low income housing is on the south side, no? The intersection he is talking about is on the north side

True, but it is on the Garwood side. When you're driving into Westfield from Cranford on 28, that area is a little run down.

Tell me about it! I was coming from the west last weekend and wanted to check out the Cranford area with my wife for the first time (we're thinking about targeting the area when we decide to buy next) and that trip on 28 was hardly the best first impression..

I heard the Crips and the Bloods were taking over Westfield.
