My wife just got a job in Franklin Lakes, NJ. My work location is going to be midtown Manhattan. Does anybody have a recommendation on a city/town in New Jersey that is maybe a 15 - 20 minute drive to Franklin Lakes and has easy access to NYC via train/subway (an hour or less). We dont have kids so schools are not that important. We'd like to rent in a nice area where prices are reasonable and we have access to some nice bars and resturants within walking/driving distance. I know this is a lot to ask but any recommendations on cities and/or apartment properties will be much appreciated. Thanks so much.

Wyckoff and Glen Rock are both great towns. You may have to define what you mean by "reasonable" though...

What is your budget? You need to post that and what type of residences you are looking into for people to be more helpful. For example, if you could afford a nice apartment or home in a semi-affluent area, then I would recommend Ridgewood or maybe even Montclair. If you were more on a tight budget I would suggest Hackensack or even Hawthrone. You just need to provide more information about what you are looking for so that you could get more responses.

I say this because "reasonable" prices is relative. What is "reasonable" in one part of the country may not be reasonable in others. For example, what is the maximum you would be willing to pay for rent if you were to live in an apartment?

FYI--This guy has posted before, he was on here a couple of weeks ago asking about Newark. From the looks of it he keeps starting new screen names.

Thanks for your responses so far and I apologize for not giving complete information. I am thinking around 2500 or so, maybe a bit more. Open to both apartments complexes or a house (not sure if that is possible). Looking for a 2/2 . My ultimate goal is not to spend a major part of my day commuting so close to the station is prefer as I have to be in the city/modtown by 830 am. I think an hour to an hour and 15 mins each way is something that I can handle to nyc. let me know if I need to provide more info and thx for the help.

icibui - I am not a troll and have not posted here before.

Ridgewood or Fair Lawn could work for you.

I agree with AZM91, check out Ridgewood or Fair Lawn. Though Ridgewood's excellent downtown has more of the restaurants and bars within walking distance; though its pricer than Fair Lawn.

Thanks folks. Are there apartment complexes that you would recommended? Is $2500 a decent budget?
Also, do you know how long it takes to commute to midtown from either of these cities. I'll check NJ Transit but some real world info would be nice. Also, I think if my wife drives to Franklin Lakes, she'll be driving opposite to rush hour traffic, right? Thanks again for all your help - much appreciated.
