Sayreville has potential to be a very nice town, but there is a lot of work to be done. I kind of wish there was more open on Main St and it is unfortunate that it looks so rundown over there. If it looked better there the town would have a very nice community vibe and feel.
Someone here said it is turning into a commuter town. Is it really on its way back up now though?
I agree, it needs a lot of work/development along washington rd and main street. Kennedy park and YMCA are better examples. Potential is in "The Point" in 10 years.

Not to mention that the town was without power for over two weeks after the power station on Main St. was destroyed by the hurricane and had to be rebuilt. The Wawa at the foot of the bridge into South River is now closed with a sign up that says "Temporarily Closed due to Storm Damage" but none of my folks or friends there think that will ever reopen. And the small Sayreville Diner directly across from it also looks pretty dark, is that place shut down too? The food there was great.

I believe that is the case with Sayreville Diner. Also, have to mention construction on Bordentown Ave & Ernston Rd since April 2012, town planned to close that for 45 days.... and to this day is not yet finished.

Oh yes! How could I forget? 45 days, yeah right. No way in hell would it take as little as 45 days to fix that intersection even if you had workers at it 24/7. It is going on a year now. The new trestle is up now and it looks nice, but the intersection is still closed. What else do they have to do?
Does anyone know what is happening at intersection of Washington Rd and Johnson Ln? It used to be a restaurant there.
You are talking about Cagney's in front of Buddies Tavern right? They just knocked it down. The place had been closed for three years because the owner was arrested for something, can't remember the exact details but it was something real shady.
