Maybe if they follow through with this then the residents of the current projects would be moved. Also Hoboken could do what other towns do by paying a different town to take low income housing
A lot of what others have posted is true. The BAR's (born and raised in Hoboken) are generally older people who don't give a crap because they have no kids in Hoboken public schools. The wealthier residents probably wouldn't send their little snowflakes to public school anyway, irrespective of the quality of the public schools. The middle class move to Ridgewood or River Vale by the time they have a couple of kids.
There is one thing that no one has mentioned. The biggest impediment to improving the Hoboken public school system is the culture of that school system. Do some research.....it's public information after all....and you'll find that the Hoboken public school system employes over 400 people. A very large percentage of those people "earn" over $100K....not counting a benefits plan that would make a third world dictator envious. Many, if not most, of the people hired by the Hoboken public schools are hired through nepotism or crony politics. It's the perfect set up for them, they are taking home fat paychecks.....most of the money provided by the state since Hoboken is an Abbott district....and they do very little work for that money. The parents of most of those kids are dependent on welfare and really don't take much of an interest in their kids' education.
Now imagine if most of the kids attending Hoboken public schools came from middle class families with parents who are college educated professionals. People like that tend to take an interest in what is going on behind the scenes at the school board. Soon it would be impossible to hire people based on nepotism. Faculty and administration would be held to performance standards. They'd actually have to start working for a living. No more crony hires. No more feather bedding, etc. No one at the Hoboken school board wants that, they want the status quo. That's why you are fighting a losing battle.
