Just the other day I was reading the Herald News about and it had a big picture of a 49 yr old woman stating to have been walking the streets of Passaic for hours looking for a rental place that would accept her $1200+ Section 8 voucher and she only had 30 or 60 more days to use it. In the same article it stated she had quit her job at kmart because they wanted her standing for hours on end and she couldn't do it. Uhhh didn't the article just state she had walked "hours" searching for an apartment??? I think alot of urban areas like Paterson, Passaic,Newark, East Orange have been given a disadvantage by allowing these subsidies to be given out so freely. People often forget that there are homeowners that live in those towns that take pride in their homes, they pay high mortgages and property taxes, they mow their lawns, improve their homes, recycle, etc. but sadly they are outnumbered by the lowlifes who think you can leave dirty mattresses on front porches or on the side of the house until they get around to calling the city to pick it up and sit it out on the curb.

I wonder if it will always be that way? How can you turn a towns negative reputation around. Paterson seems to think it's by building luxury condos in an area that's only a few blocks away from a nudie bar, a jail, and non stop parades in the summer. Not to mention the ridiculous high taxes that you have to pay for a town who didn't even have the common sense to plow and salt one of the biggest hills in the city during a snow storm. Oh yea and also why not plow and salt the side streets where people actually live??? You pay thousands of dollars in taxes for absolutely nothing. Oh wait I forgot it's for our inept city council to hold dinners at the Brownstone for over $10k and then afterwards announcing "well it was open to the public"
I agree with you, Paterson's taxes are way too high when you consider the service that is given in return.

Don't forget Neekah, that is not only a Paterson problem, its a NJ problem.
I don't care where you live, giving the local children a proper education, basic services (like trash removal and snow plowing), and police/fire protection shouldn't equate to $12,000 or more in annual property taxes per household. Let me stop, I'm going off topic.

Cool Worst cities to live in nj

I'm suprized Trenton didn't make the list, that's a dump all by itself. That is the states capital and it is drug and gang infested. There's always shooting and things going on down there that we don't hear about on the news. I visit down there often and i'd rather live in newark or jc, Trenton is what i call the jungle and it's very depressing place to live. Atleast their building up nwk and jc. Can't say the same for Trenton. Ac is another dump, the only thing nice there are the casino's and the boardwalk. If you drive around nothing but empty lots nothing nice and not a good place to live.

I am also surprised Trenton isn't on there. To be honest I haven't spent much time there, but the company i work for sends teachers who have been injured at work out for treatment in Trenton and var other places in NJ. ANd Trenton BY FAR has the most cases of kids beating up and attacking teachers. It's absolutely bizarre. We also get a lot of student/teacher violence in Pleasantville, bridgeton and vineland. They call in most frequently.

Wow I never would've thought about Vineland. I have a friend who is from there, I also have a few friends in Trenton as well. So I go down there often and they swear up and down Trenton isn't as bad as Newark. But I strongly think it is, to me they really need to build that city up cause the way it looks who would wanna llive there. Every part in Newark it's all that good don't get me wrong. But they are building up this city a lot. They need to do that for Trenton, plus J.C is getting build up a lot as well, people are moving to areas that u would never think. By me saying people you should know the people I'm talking about. Need I say more.

By those people moving in these certain cities crime will most likely decrease. I say this because the police will be more tighter just like in W.O, S.O, Livington etc..... So instead of people getting all botherd about the situation, think of it as a positive thing... You know!

LOL.. this is funny. My husband (a NJ native) and I (from Southern OC in Cali) were just arguing about this. Coming from CA, NJ was and still is very hard to take in. I am yet to see a city, town or neighboorhood as appealing as Orange County CA. It's so ugly here in the winter...and people are so not friendly. It's like everyone expects everyone to be mean, so everyone is mean. It's nuts... anyway, sorry dont mean to bash NJ...but hey I am from CA and ther is NO place like it! Hard to live anywhere else... but I'm trying it out! So wish me luck, I need it! LOL

Oh by the way I live in Edison... It's so-so. A lot of people from India though..really weird..what's up with that anyway? I mean, I am not trying to be mean. This is the "melting pot", right? But there are just tons of them here, everywhere I turn. And most of them do not use deoderant and are so rude. Especially the woman... (poor guys! LOL) But no really, there has got to be some sort of explanation or "big bang" theory, on how so many came to be here in NJ, right?? ...Sorry..again more curious than anything....just not used to it...Oh and where are all the Starbucks? And whats with the whole love thing over Dunkin DOnuts? It's like drinking hot water. yucky!

maybe you should go back to CA. You sound too high maintenance for NJ. Is there anything you like?
