i need to pick someone up from the newark airport on thursday morning at 8am and come back to forest hills, ny. what would be the quickest / most convenient option?

i do have a car but if i drive will i be stuck in the morning rush hour traffic? if so how long would it take?

if they get a shuttle/cab from the airport during the rush hour how long would it take?

we cant take the train while coming back because there will be a lot of luggage..

any suggestions would be great..

Take a flight EWR-BWI-LGA, that'll be faster.

Seriously, I'd just wait out the worst of the rush and not start out until 9:45 or so.

Some of the shuttle services want $92 to $150.
Geographically you have to cross 2 rivers and Manhattan is in the middle.
You could leave early then take your time getting back.
If there wasn't much luggage a person could rather economically take the train from the EWR station to NY Penn then the LIRR.

Driving if there was NO traffic it wouldn't take long, but no traffic usually doesn't happen that time of day. No traffic 45 to 60 mins, normal LI backup going west in the morning, 1 1/2 hrs maybe 2, total, just guesstimating.

Going west once you hit NJ normally clear sailing. EWR is maybe 15 minutes from the Holland Tunnel.

Brilliant, Noogle Maps quotes the trip as 44 minutes

2 hours easily in each direction. Depending on your luck it could be a little quicker or a lot slower. It would be best if you didn't have to do the round trip or at least not all of it. Otherwise just arm yourself with a lot of patience.

Both of these posts are on point. Rush hour traffic into and out of EWR is tough at any time. Give yourself plenty of time into and out of the area around EWR. As for the route to take back, the most direct is the NJTPK to Exit 16E for the Lincoln Tunnel. But as lots of people know, the helix backs up for seemingly miles at 8 AM. That's why I would agree with nybbler to wait until about 9:45 AM to leave the airport. Give the traffic time to clear.

Once you are in the City, the route is yours to choose to get over to Forest Hills.

I always prefer the Holland over the Lincoln most of the time. The person could also go back through Staten I, over the Goethals which is not too far from EWR. To me it seems everybody is trying to get through the Lincoln including all the buses,,,my fave is Holland T to the Willy B which connects direct to the BQE. Why bother with all the midtown traffic anyway?
