Post Hillside Border of Elizabeth

I am looking at an apartment in the Hillside / Westminster Estates area of Elizabeth and was hoping for some input. This would be my first apartment in NJ and I have been reading that their are some good parts and bad parts of Elizabeth. Of course I will be riding aropund the area myself to make my own decision but am trying to figure out if even that would be a waste of my time and gas. Other town suggestions within 30 minutes of NEw Brunswick would also be appreciated.

that area is nice and very safe.. there is a large Jewish community in that section.. easy commute to the city too as the 113 bus lines runs thru NorthAve and goes thru Hillside if i'm not mistaking.. if the price is right you should go ahead.. keep in mind that Elizabeth's downtown is going thru a redevlopment, which means that in the long term all nicer areas will go up in price as the bad areas get better.. if you need any detailed information just PM me.. i'm very familiar with all areas in Elizabeth.. good luck!!

Westminster is the BEST section of Elizabeth, IMHO.

If the price is right, by all means take it.

I have a question about Hillside Township ... What do you guys think of the area between Central Avenue and Pennsylvania Avenue ...

If you're not familiar w/ the street names, here's some nearby places: Hillside Municipal Pool, Paul F. Melesky Memorial Field, Freight train down the block.

The area around the abovementioned streets isnt the prettiest .. but the homes were nice, as was the neighborhood.

My husband and I have placed an offer on a home here. Also, is there a name/label for this part of Hillside? Your repsonse is appreciated.

Vaguely familiar with it ...

I think you hit it on the head: That specific part is okay, but the surrounding areas are sketchy at best ... and you will be living in Hillside.

If you lack better options, I guess it could work -- but only if you don't have kids.

Hope that helps.

I have to agree on that. I really would feel uncomforable living there. I'm not sure how long the commute would Old Bridge, but my son lives in a Complex right off Rt 18, and its not pricy for NJ Standards.
