Default Clifton

So I was wondering how safe Clifton is and how long the commute takes to get into NYC and how??! I was leaning towards East Orange but searched around the forums and I think it's safe to say it has put me off! I need to get into Bloomfield easily, is this possible and fast with public transportation and is it safe to be getting the bus at night in the area?

Clifton vs East Orange?

Drive up the Garden State Parkway. Look to your left at the exits between 145-148. That's East Orange. The homes in Clifton are in better condition.. that I've seen. Maybe I've been in the right section, of course -- Allwood. I don't know what the Athenia section is like.

Clifton seems pretty safe. I live next to it currently, my SO used to work there, and we've taken Delawanna station to New York and it's felt perfectly safe. It's a 35-40 minute train ride to Penn Station. You'll need to transfer at Secaucus every single day, and if you miss your transfer home to Clifton, be prepared to wait 30-60 minutes in Secaucus.

It's pretty close to Bloomfield. You'll have to pay a toll one way if you take the parkway, even though it's only 4 exits, but taking Broad Street between them can be annoying because it has a lot of traffic lights as you get closer to Bloomfield. We used to get from Oakland ave, right next to Bloomfield's parkway exit, to Delawanna station in Clifton in 15-20 minutes at prime times.

That was driving. If you're taking the bus, it gets tricky. The DeCamp bus line is infamous, but you might find an NJ Transit bus that takes you from Clifton to Bloomfield.

Bloomfield at night is okay, but it gets shady once you get past Watsessing Park and towards Newark.

I've never seen East Orange so had to go by the word on this forum! Thanks so much for the info, was trying to make sense of the njtransit web page with little luck but I think it just go easier! (I think I found a bus that goes to Bloomfield from Clifton!)

Well I won't be driving so it will be public transport to and from Clifton, although the 35 minute commute seems pretty good as I am taking longer journeys to work right now.

Thanks so much for the info
