Well what do you consider high rent? Where do you work? Rents vary depending on where you are, what kinda town it is, what kinda amenities it offers.

Pa or NY, which one? It is much more expensive to be within commuting distance of NYC than Philly, so in order to narrow down some towns with lower rents (of which there are a good number in south Jersey) we need to know which area, north or south, you want to be in.

You really need to give us some direction here:

Where do you work?
How long a commute do you consider to be acceptable?
What is your preferred price range for rental expenses?

Check the poster's previous posts. The short version seems to be a desire to work in NYC and live near people of the same age, with acreage, & apparently, now add cheaply to that. Hopefully, I haven't missed anything.

Northern NJ is a pretty big area... You could find rents at that price in parts of Morris, Sussex and Hunterdon Counties I'm sure. Will more likely be in a garden complex in a more rural area, but there's places out there if ya look. Friends of mine have rented in that price range in Budd Lake and Hackettstown, very nice and spacious apartments with patios and balconies even. But again, your commute could be 15 minutes or an hour and a half depending where in North Jersey your job is and what town you end up in. A little more info on our end will go a long way on yours!

The ones that border the state. Google maps is your friend.

But seriously, what town do you plan to work in in NNJ? If you could even give us a target county, that would be helpful.

Well, any town along the state line and 25 miles west of there could be considered "close to Jersey"...

Let's start here: what town is your job in and what kind of commute would you be ok doing?
