If you're concerned about access to night life, you may want to consider Collingswood, NJ. You would have access to PATCO on the weekends for easy 24/7 access to Center City Philadelphia. However, you'd be about 18 miles to work, though 130 Northbound in the morning probably is pretty reliable up to Burlington. It's a straight shot. You'd also have access to all of the shopping in Cherry Hill, but without being stuck in suburbia with no way out but a car. Just another option to consider. Keep in mind that tolls are expensive if you live in PA. The DRPA bridges are $5 a day. That's $100/month in just bridge tolls. Also, if you're in the city, you will pay 4% of your wage to the city and you'll need to stay on the east or northeast ends of the city, so you can get to Burlington in a reasonable time.
Your best bet is to either stay in the Mt. Laurel area, Stay away from apartment complexes in Burlington area. There is a nice complex that has been redone in Edgewater Park. It is called the Court Yard. 609-835-2540. They are nice, and is only 5 mins to Burlington. That would be my only suggestion in the area.
Any reason why you are suggesting to stay away from burlington area?
Because for some people Burlington is too Urban , so 5 mins away is very suburban. All the Riverline towns have 2 sides , one is the Historic Railway section , and the other is the sprawly Auto section which is boring.... Burlington is a small , Dense town , very quiet and peaceful....its also very old....1790s...
Keep in mind that there are TWO Burlingtons. One is Burlington City, which has a bad reputation in the area. It doesn't mean it's crime ridden based on national statistics, it just means that the locals consider it a seedier, poorer more run down area. The second Bulrington is Burlington Township. Burlington Township does not have the same reputation as say Mount Laurel, but it is considered a decent average area. There are a couple apartment complexes in Burlington Twp. and this is where the movie theater, shopping and malls are.
As far as Collingswood and Cherry Hill go; Collingswood is the walkable suburban town with a decent main street that also has easy access to Center City via PATCO, it is a safe and regular town. Cherry Hill is sort of the "capital" of South Jersey. It is a large suburban township and contains anything you could ever want as far as shopping and dining go. There are some areas that are also convenient to PATCO as well. People who live in Collingswood will generally shop in Cherry Hill. The decision between those two comes down to what you are looking for.
The two places I would recommend given your requirements...
Cinnaminson Harbour development. There are apartments, townhomes and condos here. They are convenient to Burlington and also have a RiverLine stop right outside the development that you can take to Philly or to events at the Waterfront in Camden. Overall Cinnaminson is a great town and very safe.
Ramblewood in Mount Laurel is a large apartment complex situated on the Ramblewood Country Club. They have everything from small 1 bedrooms to large 3/4 bedroom townhomes. They are centrally located along Route 73 and while they aren't necesarilly near the major shopping areas, they are convenient to all of them as well as 295 and the NJ Turnpike. For someone new to the area this would be a very central location to base and explore the area.
I say that because I am police officer in the area, and the apartment complexes are problem areas. Homes are nice, but they are looking for an apartment.
