I was notified that friday is my last day of my paid internship. I worked a total of 14 weeks. However I was just offered a 2 month (8 week) full time contract which will start in two weeks. After the contact is over, I will have a total of 22 weeks for this year. I know I need a minimum of 20 weeks to qualify for regular unemployment, and any extensions (if the tier 1 thru 4 gets extended). My question is, do I wait until my new 8 week contract is over to file for unemployment? or should i file right away, it's only a two week gap. I just don't want to hurt my chances of collecting the max amount of weeks. Thanks.

If you're looking for a job now that you're done school, maybe you will have one by the time the 8 week contract is up. Why are you planning for unemployment in advance?

I say you get a job and skip UI.

A paid internship probably is min. wage, so you'll get almost nothing in UI.

Better off getting a job. UI is a nightmare and a waste of time.

I understand some people need it, as so many jobs have vanished, but you just seem like you want it.
