Default What is so good about New Jersey?

What is so good about New Jersey? New Jersey is getting too expensive; cost of living, realestate, taxes, and insurance.
Many families sell their home in New Jersey and move to elsewhere for easier life where their dollars go little farther. Often I hear they are working hard just to make end meet and can't save a dime or working hard only to maintain the same relative lifestyle.
I grew up in Monmouth County in early 70's and left New Jersey for military. I am now retired from military and settled in El Paso, TX but my families living in Ocean Township want me to come back to New Jersey.
I've traveled and lived in many states and cities but I can't find any reason to go back to New Jersey except to live close by my families and big ocean beach.
My income is only low 100K range a year. I'll bet I score a lot more vacation and maintain better lifestyle than most people in New Jersey about same income range.

If you don't love NJ, nobody can convince you that it's great, as is true of any place on earth. Is this rocket science? There are like nine thousand threads in this forum on this very subject. Stay in El Paso. (shrug) Your family doesn't want you to move to NJ because it's empirically superior to Texas, they want you to move there because they miss you.

So????? Forgive me, but is there a point to your post? Are you encouraging everyone to leave NJ? Or are you asking if you should move back?

I could write a book about why I would never live in TX. But who cares, really?

You at Fort Bliss? Are you living in the ever expanding northeast, or the West Mesa?

I am flying back to NJ next week for my annual sojurn. I am going to load up on the food, cheesesteaks especially! I'll be there for 5 days. Then I'll get back on the plane, fly back into El Paso, look around at all the barren landscape (you are familiar of course, with the final approach, the surrounding area around El Paso looks like Trinity after the A-bomb went off), and thank god I'm back home. Then, for affirmation, I'll get my mortgage coupon book out after I pull into my driveway.

Cybersimple, it comes back to personal taste. NJ priced me out, but there are some charming things about the state, such as the food, and the personality of many of its residents. But overall, you have to look out for your own family, not your extended one, unless they are going to help you with your bills.

I agree with most of it. I made the fatal mistake of moving back near NJ a few years ago and now I'm stuck(for now).
But once most people move away then come back it just feels worse because you've seen how much better it can be elsewhere. I'm speaking of the northeast in general. As far as what NJ has to offer, somewhat decent economy and lower crime that's about it. If you like traffic all the time and a high stress, fast paced lifestyle then by all means NJ is for you.

If you have to ask what is so great about it- I suggest not moving to NJ. People love NJ and people hate NJ. Why consider a place you already have a negative attitude about?

There are a lot of great things about NJ-the beach, the food, close to two major cities, the sports, etc. etc. . However, in my opinion, it goes beyond that. There is just a feeling about NJ. You either have that feeling or you don't. It is not tangible-it is just a feeling. Despite all the problems, people who have that "feeling" would not want to live any other place. If they do move away, they try to come back. There are strong feelings about NJ on both sides. If you already think you won't like it here you probably won't.

The people who are truly happy in NJ, are those who are aware of the problems that NJ has but still love it and believe that there is nowhere else that is truly home.

Good luck

NJ is a great place. It all really depends on a person's attitude. If you're a person who tends to look on the positive side of any situation, then certainly, there is a lot to love here.

That said, I could live most anywhere, and I'm sure I could live in Texas , and be perfectly content. It is all about focusing on a locale's best points. YMMV.

I am not trying to insult or offend anyone. I am just asking your opinion and the facts. All above posts still haven't said much regarding the original thread, "what is so good about the New Jersey?".
I live in a midsize house that costs less than one half of what would cost in New Jersey. Big Atlantic Ocean? My family and I can go on a trip to Atlantic or Pacific Ocean enjoy the beach but can truly say the samething by people who lives in New Jersey with my income range?
Of course there are pros and cons and certain things can't be compared with New Jersey but I can sacrifice those for my family's comfort and stress free lifestyle.
To those very sensitive people, it is just an example that people here can save money to do what they wish and living in a house just as comfortable (size, comfort, swiming pool, etc,) if not better especially under the beautiful dry sunshine weather.
