I am going to a hockey game tonight at the Prudential Center, coming from the City. I will be going down to the Newark Path station and from Google maps see it's about a 3 blocks (roughly half a mile) from the Prudential Center. Though this is a really short walk, I was wondering if it's safe for a mid 20s female to be walking this around 6 PM or if I'd be better off taking a cab.

Thanks!

It is fine. Loads of other Devils fans are going to be making the same walk you are.

It's in a central business district. But you don't have to take Market Street. There's an indoor skywalk in the Gateway stretching a couple of blocks from Penn Station leading from a flight below the PATH platform to Mulberry Street, then walk across Market and you're there. There should be a couple of cops there directing traffic on Market.

As long as you stay with the other Devils fans, your good. I come in for games from the Bronx and take the walk a lot. Ignore the homeless people hanging in front of Newark Penn and your fine.

Great! Thanks guys. At least I know I'm not lost if I'm going the same direction as the Devils fans.

I felt super ignorant asking the question, but being new to the area, you never know!

I wouldn't wander out too far from the area though. That area is not bad, but it gets rough really quick if you head in any direction.

Ferry Street(east) and NJPAC(north) aren't what I call "rough" areas. And there's no reason to go west of Broad Street or south of City Hall.
