Default Best place for me to live?

Hello, I'm a 26 y.o. single female currently living on the west coast. I am originally from the east coast. I have decided to move back, after realizing that the relationship/ place I am in now just isn't right for me anymore. I am going to be transferring to my company's office in NYC. I know NY is a very expensive place to live in so I think NJ might be the best option for me. I think I'll be able to afford about $1,000 in rent/ month. I don't mind having a roommate as long as I get my own bedroom.

Where is the best place for me? Hobokin? Montclair? I'll need to have a place to park my car from Mon-Fri; I will only be using it on the weekends to visit family. I want to live in a place that has a good social scene for singles, good shopping & restaurants, maybe an artistic vibe as well.

Also, I just want to note that I am not dead-set on living in NJ, if there's anywhere else I could live that wouldn't take more than a 30-40 min. commute to NYC, I will consider it too.

Please let me know what you think.

Thanks!

You'd most definitely want a roommate, IMO. The one bedrooms you could afford at $1000 IN NJ with a decent commute to the city would not be places a young, single woman would want to live in on her own. You'd have many, many safe, comfortable options spending around $2000 on a 2 BR with a roommate.
