I think renters insurance would cover loss of use. My home owners insurance did, minus the deductibles though.

Yes, you can claim your renter insurance/homeowner insurance. However, most of them have deductible. My home owner insurance deductible is $500. I don't think all foods rotten in my frige worth $500 so that I didn't bother to claim last time after Irene.
