Lawdy, my son went to Montclair High (Great School) pilot for the USA - I guess you did not check that out and/or research enough. The guidance counselor black male Ph.D. do not tell our sons to look forward to maintenance work, byproduct of EO high back in the day. My son He is FINE no problem with someone yellin rape. He graduated Montclair and was glad for the divesity. Very diverse school system, 5 different choices of English class (grade English, rap, poetry, etc) and the beat goes go. What planet of Montclair High did you go to. EO LOL - they encourage the girls to have babies, they have a daycare. OK maybe it's for them to continue and not be a dropout, but do you know how many opted to have children b/c of that laize fair stance. In a few years you may eat your own words I truly hope you do not. The taxes are grand, yes everyone in EO will tell you it's a great place to live, then closed their doors and laugh at you b/c they are setting you up to steal you sh..

A little Faith
Wow. I grew up on Edgerton Ter across from Upsala baseball field until 93. I am one of 7 kids who went to CJS. Of which all of us graduated from college with degrees. 15 degrees to be exact. Some of the best schools in the nation. MIT, Rutgers, UPenn, USC, BU, Columbia. We are Engineers, Doctor, Lawyers, Teacher, and Law Enforcement. We give a scholarship at CJS yearly.
I say this to put in perspective the responsibility of a parent no matter where you live.
I currently own a home in Hillsborough NJ. Rated one of the Top 100 places to live in the country by Money Magazine. However, your can find the Red and Blues here also. At the malls and out late. The Ugly truth is this CRAZYness is everywhere. You live and 90210 and have a child strung out on drugs or be from 07017 and have them selling it...destruction either way.
As parents and a community our responsibility does not end with ourselves, or lessen because we are in a good area. I remember it being important to help folks less fortunate (not only financially). What is important is having faith in a GOD that sits on HIGH and all things OBEY(especially RED and BLUE must obey). Think about it, how did seven kids grow up all their lives in EO..(from 19 str., William Str., 4ave, and Edgeton Ter and never end up in trouble with the law). That is GOD. I knew gang members and Drug dealers (However I knew GOD first) . And if you lived in the area you knew me, since I worked at CATHY's Place at the corner of North Clinton and Springdale for many years before going off to college.
So...It can be done today and tomorrow (children or no Children)
For those who knock living in EO...get a little faith or you will be scared of something where ever you live. And for those who have purchased in Woodland, feel blessed that you can own, and help others in your community to ensure that someone in need such as my family may have a chance.
Note: The Big Brother Big Sisters Program is always looking for help. I know I'm a Big Brother to a family in Newark and I have my Own Family. Let me know if you need the number.

A new day....

Question about Apt Renting
Thank you to all firstly...
I've begun reading this post and it quite appropriately addresses some issues that my wife and I currently have. We recently got married and are moving from NYC to this location.
A lot of replies stems around the issue of safety. My wife needs to commute from there to Brooklyn while I'll need to go to Paterson every day.
We are interested in The Grand at Park ( www.thegrandnj.com). It is located on 650 Park Ave. The price is VERY reasonable in our opinion and the amenities sound almost too good to be true.
We are a bit worried about the location too since we are not sure which parts of East Orange we should/should not consider.
If anyone here has any comments/concerns regarding this location or the residence, my Wife and I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you in advance.

Gotta admit, those two places look spectacular, and I applaud anyone with enough pioneering spirit to anticipate the future, or more, to CREATE the future.
I used to pass by East Orange all the time on the way to Seton Hall, and I sometimes mosey along the local roads and gas stations instead of using the crowded parkway, and it looked like your typical urban area. Hopefully, centers of wealth and good communities can act as seeds to slowly renovate at least a part of the city.
Yes you can
