Thank you all for your responses. I was wondering if the water charges will be different for each municipality? If not, then I am definitely paying too much. Since recently moving to my new home and not having a sprinkler system, I have done very minimum manual watering(You remember how rainy the summer was in NJ!).

i pay about $40/month, and that was the peak, with 4 adults living in my home almost every day (grandparents helping with newborn). normally, with just my wife and I, we're around $25/month-$30/month.

House of 1. (North Jersey)

Per Quarter
Base Rate of $100 (they recently doubled our base rate to make up budget shortfalls)
Additional water usage about $30.00

The last town I lived, I paid about $55 for water and $35 for sewer (that's for 1 person, and for the quarter).

The town I live now...the sewer charge alone is a SET rate of $140 per quarter! Not sure how much I pay for water (it's included in my monthly HOA fee).

Does anyone else have such a high sewer charge? I'm really not sure how that works. I see timneh5's post where s/he pays $68.95 for water and $125.45 for sewer for the quarter. Anyone else?

To the OP, marchalimbu, is your quarterly bill of $330 for water AND sewer, or just water? Because if that $330 is for BOTH, where, say, $130 is for sewer, than you're paying $200 quarterly for water (i.e., $67 for water per MONTH for a family of 6...which is either comparable or actually cheaper than what everyone else posted in this thread).

My water bill is 195 and sewer bill is 135. I just got off the phone with a Matawan Borough official and she said the water/sewer dept employee is part-time and is not in the office right now (its 4:00 pm), so obviously all I could do was to leave a voice message.
Will try to confirm if the sewer bill is fixed at 135 or if its a variable of water usage.

Each water system (be it a private entity or a municipal department) has its own rate schedule. From the responses, it does appear that there is some variation from one system to another, as one would expect. After all, since PSE&G, JCP&L, and Atlantic City Electric charge different rates for electricity, it it should not be surprising that each water system has its own rate structure.

I have New Jersey American Water. Most of my life I had Ridgewood Water Company.
