Ok, so most people in this thread have listed the number of people in their households and also listed their water and sewer charges separately.

I took this data and broke the WATER charges down to per person, per month. It ranges from $7.50 to $18 per person, per MONTH (again, for water only).

[FYI, that water charge of $18 per person, per month was MINE in the town in which I was living last year (Livingston). FWIW, I had 2 people living with me on a part time basis, so that $18 is a bit of an outlier.]

For the most part, people in this thread are reporting an average of $10 per person per MONTH (again, for water only). I did not count tahiti's data because I'm not sure if it's a typo or an outlier. To the OP, marchalimbu, you are paying $10.83 per MONTH, per person for water...so at least in regards to your water charges, it seems you are paying about the average.

Now the SEWER charges...that's a whole 'nother bag of nuts. THAT ranges from $35 per QUARTER to $175 per QUARTER.

I can see, as Retriever has said, how water rates can differ from municipality to municipality based on the different water companies and rate structures used. Nevertheless, there doesn't seem to be a significant difference in the WATER charges from town to town.

When it comes to SEWER charges, there DOES seem to be a significant difference from town to town. $35 to $175 per quarter (or, $140 to $700 per year) is a huge range. I wonder why that is. I have no idea how sewer service works. I'm sure different towns have different set ups. Are they really THAT different? Again, we're talking about a pretty big range of difference in quarterly charges.

Also, not sure if everyone else's sewer charges are a set rate per quarter, or if it varies by usage (although, I have no idea how sewer usage would be measured or gauged ). In the last town I lived, it DID vary each quarter. I'm sure others here have variable sewer bills as well.

I did contact the water/sewer department last year to get an explanation about all this, but I never got any response.

i noticed that also. first thought that came to mind was that perhaps towns with more dense and greater populations would have a lower cost per household. there is also the possibility that some towns do more or less with that money than others (or even use it elsewhere).

I don't get a sewer bill, but probably because I'm in a condo.

Not sure what "paying too much" means.

Water company charges per 1000 gal usages at tier rate. The rate is going to differ from one municipal to another and it may differ in the way sewage is charged.

The question is how many gallons of water you use and how does that compare to the average household.

It is all very, very curious. I can't find any answers anywhere (like I said, the sewer department wouldn't return my emails or calls). Can't find anything on the internet either. Hmmmm....

I'm living in a condo too, but it's the opposite for me. I don't get a water bill, but I get a sewer bill.

When I first moved here and they told me that the monthly condo fee included the water bill, I thought, "WOOHOO! Score!"

Then I got the sewer bill and thought, "DOH!"

Considering I just figured out that water only costs an average of $10 per person per month, this is definitely no SCORE.

Live & learn.
