I have recently accepted an offer to work in Midtown (Madison Ave). I want to live outside of Manhattan and it looks like NJ would be my best bet. My budget is $1700 (based on Salary/40). I am 27yrs old and would like a quite place with parking (needed for job). Any area that reduces my travel would be great, and would like to keep it under an hour travel to midtown. I will not be driving to Manhattan, but i need my car for when I need to go to CT or NY surrounding areas. Any help with areas that would be nice, safe and within my budget would be appreciated.
Rutherford does sound great. If it's just a one bedroom, you really have your choice of nice towns to live in. It all depends on what you want out of your town: quiet and calm, a downtown, a younger feel, a nightlife, etc.
Rutherford is quiet, and is close to Midtown by both train and car. You can also look at other towns along rail lines. At your age, Montclair and Maplewood would certainly be popular choices for young professionals working in Manhattan. They're a bit younger of towns than Rutherford. Rutherford is slightly closer though, and will certainly be quieter.
Thanks for the suggestions! Would you recommend I rent at apartment complex or house?
