Default Where to live if working in Jersey City

My Husband & I are looking for homes in NJ - he works in Jersey City, I work in Midtown...we were looking in Plainsboro/East & South Brunswick but found a few beautiful homes in Monroe & Old Bridge. I tried researching transportation from Monroe to Jersey City..it seems impossible other than driving, can anyone advise on transportation options for those working in JC?

Thanks!

Old Bridge is great, you could take a quick drive to Metropark or Perth Amboy train station and park your car and take the train to the city. Or you could try Edison or Iselin(Metropark area) and catch a 30-40 min train ride to the city.
Other towns to consider even though they will most likely be more expensive than Monroe/Old Bridge area are:
South Orange/Maplewood (direct train service to NYC/JC)
Livingston
Rahway (new transit village)

You are looking at many great areas. Not sure if schools are of concern but I will break down the towns mentioned:

Old Bridge
Has some good areas but some of the town in rundown. I am not sure what price range you are in but I would not recommend buying on the HIGH end ($700K+) in that town. There is no public transportation here.

East Brunswick
Has excellent schools and is a great town overall. Lots of upper middleclass people live there and the town has plently of scenery. Also has bus transportation and nearby train Transportation in New Brunswick.

Monroe
No real transportation but this is a great town as well. It has plently of McMansions around and if lots of land is your thing then you can go to the West Windsor side where everyone as acres of property.

South Brunswick
Excellent school systems and has one of the largest High Schools in the state. It is a beautiful town again with many McMansions around. It is a bit further south than all the other towns but it is worth it. As for transportation, I am not really sure about that one.

Hope this info helps

Good luck with your search

I don't know... Commuting to the city from Monroe would be rough. Old Bridge would be more doable, and you would want to take the train from Matawan or take a bus.

Everyone I know who works in JC just drives in.
