25 years ago, this area was the best...until everyone found out about it. Now it is extremely over populated and overpriced. People are -very- pompous and a lot of kids here never worked a day in their life and are spoiled. Pretty much all MTV type. That's my opinion.

Unless you work at the HQ of a major corporation(this town is now filled with them), it'll be a tricky area. You need a ton of money to live here.
I'm trying to escape NJ because there really isn't a middle class place to live. There are middle class towns like ramsey, mahwah, allendale, ridgewood ect..but they all have upper class prices. $650,000 would buy you the smallest house in town.

One last bad part about NJ is it doesn't take very long to go from extremely nice to extremely bad. Monvale and Saddle River are the best of the best. Spring Valley is a dump ghetto...5 minute drive from montvale. All of north Jersey is like this. You could be living in heaven with hell two towns over.

Aside from the problems, it has a lot of ups. The scenery is amazing. North Jersey is 75% terrain and 25% sky. Basically rolling hills and tons of folliage.

To sum it all up- IF you have millions in your bank account and work at a corporate HQ this is the best place to live.
hear, hear! well said, cvan. lived here all my life couldn't agree more.

Yeah, you missed the most important part. While I'm sure New Jersey has plenty of negative points...just like any other state...I'd reeaaallly like to just stick to the positives if you don't mind. The move is definite, no changing minds at this point, and I wasn't thrilled to begin with, so I've been really thankful for the people who have told me the good things about living there. And again, if I want to read negatives, it's not like I have to go far.

i wonder if you were offered a corporate job that involved many negatives whether you would be making the same case. that is, applying the same logic, since all corporations involve negatives, there is no need to listen to people who work for the company to tell you in advance that your new employer harasses women and doesn't pay people for mandatory overtime. you only want to hear that you get a couple 15 minute breaks and the cafeteria food isn't bad. c'mon.

She's coming, it's a done deal...so she's looking for the positives. If everyone did that, there'd be a lot less whining in this world.

Geez, are you even listening at all, or did you just come here to argue some random point? The choice is made, there is no more deciding. Please post somewhere else where people want to hear all the gloom and doom, and be miserable about their future. I'd like to stick to things that will cheer me up about moving my family and my life to a completely unfamiliar part of the country. I don't need to hear your negative viewpoint anymore, and I'm done arguing about this.

I LOVE these. WHERE do you find these...........

Nhhappy is right...you are coming at "yes, I can fall in love with this place" time. Nothing beats an eastern or midwestern autumn. You may struggle with homesickness. There won't be any shame in that. If you do, DM me. I know all about that!!! It doesn't matter where a person is from, homesickness can be huge. But you're doing the smart thing, looking toward things you can really enjoy. That makes it a grand adventure. You sound like a fun person who likes to get out and do things so you're going to have a really great time.

Sorry, that's probably redundant because it's all been said before but I don't think I ever mentioned the homesickness part. Hugs to you.

Thanks guys! We're leaving tomorrow for a little over a week "up north" to hopefully find a house to rent somewhere in Bergen County. We're also bringing a dog, so that's made our rental search a little more difficult. I'm excited because I hear that fall is beginning in New Jersey! We never get fall down here, the trees are green all year (I'm in south Texas!) so I really can't wait. I've actually been trying to push our move up a week or two so we can enjoy the month of October up there, which some posters have gotten me really excited about! Of course, I'm driving my husband and me both crazy in the process. Yes, I'm worried a little about the homesickness since we have absolutely no friends or family up there, but hopefully we'll meet people quickly. And I think we'll definitely be investing in a GPS system because I'll go crazy if I'm stuck in the house and I don't have the greatest sense of direction. I hear the roads are a lot different from what we're used to! Is that true or just another southern myth about the north? I've heard a lot of them lately...every time I tell someone we're moving to New Jersey!
