Edison and Woodbridge are very densly populated, and have a very high population that takes away from a nice town feeling. there is alot of turnover, and a high indian population.

METUCHEN borders Edison and is a million times nicer. check out metuchen. You may also want to consider Westfield, NJ or Bridgewater. But not, and I stress=- not woodbridge or edison.

I would look at Metuchen area as well. You'd have the option of bus or train to NYC, and a couple of options for routes into Newark. Metuchen has a quaint downtown area, very safe for walking/browsing. A short car ride from Metuchen would be all of the malls, restaurants you'd need. There used to be a newcomer's group (formerly Welcome Wagon) that provided newly relocated people the opportunity to meet with each other, play groups for toddlers etc. I'm sure your wife and child would be safe there, and would be able to meet others through a church, JCC or Y program. Edison and Woodbridge are just huge and crowded, Metuchen or even Milltown retain that safe hometown feel.

Since I'm a homeowner in Carteret I'm not familiar with the price range of condos, but I can tell you that Carteret is a safe town. I've lived here all my life and have never had a problem. There are new condos being built and they look beautiful. Please check out Carteret. For some reason Carteret has a bad reputation and it's really no better than Woodbridge or Edison. People need to get involved in the community and schools then you'll see that Carteret is just like every other town. There's always bad with the good. As for the school system, well my son will be starting high school and I've alwasys been involved with his school work and I'm really glad he went to the Carteret public schools because of the great support I got from his teachers. And Carteret is just down the road from the Newark Airport and New York City. We have public transportation and we're only a few miles from the train station in either Rahway or Woodbridge.

You may want to consider Atlantic Highlands or Highlands. The ferry to NYC is right there (very quick-45 min) and affordable for just once a week. They are both affordable small towns that are quaint and very safe. It takes me about 30 minutes to drive to Newark airport. Parking long term is very easy...we do it all the time! Plus, the beach is right there in the summer!

Default areas in NJ

Edison and iselin are both ok. It depends on how often you'll be commuting to NYC because sometimes it can be diffiuclt to get parking. I'm a realotr in the area and I live in Metuchen. It's about 20 minutes to Newark airport and there is a train downtown. The town runs a free shuttle bus service to the train, but you can probably even walk. It's also a great family town with a main street with shops and restaurants, parks and close to all transportation. I've been here 7 yrs with my 2 kids (5 &2 yrs old)and I love it. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contcat me.

Ali

Be advised that any of those towns near newark airport like newark, carteret, elizabeth, linden, rahway and anything near the airport and the ports will have very very poor air quality. There is alot of pollution from all the industry near there and there are lots of trucks driving through there. There is also a foul smell in that area. I would advise looking in monmouth or middlesex county. its a longer commute to NYC but the air is much better.Look into towns like spotswood, middletown, and marlboro.

You should check out a new local website for the area, www.ilovemilltown.com. It is a local website for Milltown, East Brunswick and North Brunswick. It's new, but there is stuff already up. You should check out the Why I Love... Page where local residents can talk about why they love the area. I live in Milltown and I have to say, it's such a pretty, nice small town. Hopefully this website will help you. Good luck!
