the mall is very safe.. it does get crowded on weekends.. might prefer to go during the weekdays.. I live in Elizabeth and I won't go on weekends b/c many NY'ers go there gets annoying crowded.. it has many great outlet stores.. and it's closer than woodbury commons.. oh and 7% or 3.5% taxes.. ;-)

I have been there many of times and I ALWAYS felt safe. Its a nice mall with great stores. The area is just fine. Its a stereotype that the mall is not safe because you hear Elizabeth- but in actuality its not even in the middle of Elizabeth.

That mall is safe for daytime and nighttime shopping. As others have said, you should be more than fine.

There are not sketchy areas because across the street there are about 5 Hotels, from Extended Stays and so on. There is also a Ruby Tuesdays and they just built a new warehouse in the back for Elizabeth Seaport. I've awlays felt safe there but just use common sense like any other mall.
Common Sense? I made the mistake of using the Bathroom, was almost attacked . I sure did run, staight to security. There are some rough types from the bad section of Newark that frequent that mall. I've lived in NYC as a young girl and never did I feel as freatened as I did that day. I travel to Jamaica(WI) where people say they won't get off a ship, but in 6 times there I never had a cause for concern. I would never go to that mall again even with a long layover in Newark next May.

It should be fine. It is separated from the bad areas of Newark and Elizabeth so you should be OK shopping there.

Not to discount your experience but your situation isn't common with that mall. Sure there are more suburban inspired malls such as Short Hills but Jersey Gardens is for the most part safe
