I'm moving to NJ soon from NYC. I didn't research the area that much, but where I'm moving to people are scaring me about it. I have to walk like 15 minutes to the path train. Sometimes I get home late and I'm petite....I don't want to walk home late in the dark. I want to get a pass...I'm going to be in zone one. I guess that's $1.50....do I just show them the pass and keep walking on the bus? If I pay in coins do I hand it to the bus driver or do I dispense it in a machine like in NYC? Also If I buy a January pass and it's February 1st do I use my January pass up until noon on February 1st or do I use my February pass as soon as February starts? Thanks
Yea you just show the bus operator your pass, it has the zone stamped on it. Your month's pass is good for the month printed on it. If you're paying cash (don't give the poor bus operator a handful of coins) you just hand it to them and they dispense change as needed, there's no ticket vending machines or cards to swipe like the MTA's buses.

Yes NJ Transit lets you use your last months pass until noon on the 1st day of the new month.
