I am moving from Manhattan to Northern NJ and looking for a moving company. Any recommendations? Average cost of moving?

You can't give an average, because it all depends upon how many boxes and how much furniture YOU have.

I used East-West Movers in Hackensack. They'll give you an estimate over the phone and then send an email to confirm.

From my experience with movers, the cost will factor on the following:
* Distance from your old place to your new place.
* Time it will take to move, from start to finish.
* How many trucks it will take to move your belongings.
* Will you be boxing up things yourselves, or will you have the movers do that for you?
* How many employees the moving company will need to send out.

Before you call a mover, get answers for those above factors, and you can get an accurate estimate. Also, remember to factor in a tip for each guy. I can't remember what I tipped, but I think I gave each guy $20 - $25 each.

As for movers, I highly recommend Casella and Sons. I've used them, and have recommended them many times to co-workers, friends, and family members. We're all been satisfied with their service.
