Yes, I do agree. Commute time is not perfect, but what are the alternatives? We are in love with South Jersey, it really looks like a great place to rise a family.
And so far Barnegat seems like the best deal for us. Shorter commute will inevitably mean smaller and older house.
Hi Nayda, you are correct that you can make P. A. from Barnegat in an hr., however, your husband would have to be on the road by 6:30 am. Fri. night coming back home in Summer could possibly take him as long as 3 hrs. We moved from No. Jersey to Barnegat in the early 70's right outside where you are looking off of Georgetown Blvd., our 3 bd., 2 bath, 2 car garage with 1/4 acre was a total of $32,000 in 1973. The area that you are looking at has not changed we were there last month to visit family for Christmas. Consider looking one town over in Manahawkin, ie. Ocean Acres. Taxes and gas & electric are less than Barnegat. The schools are very good in either town, our kids got a very good education there. We moved to Manahawkin after living in Barnegat for 15 yrs., & it was considerably less. My only advice would be to research, it is a lot different traveling the GSP in Winter then Summer.
The only reason we moved from So. NJ is that it got too congested after 911 & our prices went up on everything. Good luck to you. kelsie So. NJ transplant to E. NC
Thank you!
I've checked Manahawkin/Ocean Acres and the part of Barnegat which is above 554Rd. Houses seem more expensive over there, but probably we still can get one. Though Settlers Landing is still more attractive bargain-wise.
I wonder how bad the crime in Settlers Landing really is.. The crime rates in Barnegat are like 20 times (!!!) less than NJ average, according to

Maybe you, Ocean County guys, are just spoiled? Right now we live in the area which has more risks than NJ average and believe it or not, we are used to it and feel safe enough. So when we drove around and around in Barnegat, area seemed more than perfect and looked totally safe.
The home(s) in Settlers Landing may be attractive bargain wise, but once you add in the cost of the additional gasoline, extra vehicle use, tolls, and higher car insurance (farther from employment and insurance will be higher if there is a lot of vehicle theft in the town), your bargain house is no longer a bargain. How much research have you done in South Jersey? Here's a home a little farther North of Barnegat that's in Bayville. This house is close to the beach and is one hour to Perth Amboy.
You knocked me off my feet
This is WOW house for the price, and location, and year.
I definitely failed to research South Jersey enough if I missed such an option!

It's close to a family-oriented beach that's great for small kids, since the river/bay beach has no waves. Very close to Shop Rite, pharmacies, tons of shopping on Hooper Ave., etc.
I'm sorry but that would be foolish to live that far from where you work. That's 60 miles on the Parkway, then add in the time to get to and from the Parkway = Daily Misery.
If you make that move, you will be sorry (at least your husband will for sure).
Look at Hazlet or North Middletown, you can find what you need there.
Settlers Landing is the only area of Barnegat that i would NOT buy in. I like the Bayville,Toms River, Brick option. It is 15 minutes closer. That means alot day after day.
