Hey everyone -Looking for cheap rent in a good area (Clifton: rentals, neighborhoods)

Seems to be very tough to find, I am a musician that just moved to the area. I'd like to find a very safe, nice area for about 5-600 m/o. I don't care if it is a shared space, but the roomie(s) would need to be a good person/people all around.

Everywhere I have found thus far seems like rough neighborhoods, and I don't want to deal with that hassle. Though I'm not in college, I am of college age, and rooming with people around my own age with similar interests (music, video games etc) would be beneficial. I'd need easy access to public transportation, preferably in the Clifton vicinity so I can get to band practices easily.

Any ideas?

Check the Montclair State University Housing Office listings...maybe something in Little Falls, Montclair, Clifton would work well for you. That seems to be a workable price for a shared space in that area....just make sure that if you are looking in Little Falls, it is not flood-affected. Good luck with your search and with your music.

Also did you check North Jersey Craigs List "All housing" with the town and see if you may get lucky.

Rentals are a dime a donzen at the moment. Always bargain the rent. FInd a place $1K/mo and bargain down.

This is a good idea.

I would also take a walk around campus when winter break is over and look at the bulletin boards for people looking for roommates.
