Hi, this is my first post here but I am a long time lurker.

Anyway. I am from Manahawkin and my husband is from Bucks County PA. We are looking for a mid way location between the two. We like the Jackson area but cannot find a house that suits us there.

We are finding a lot of great affordable houses in the Browns Mills area. But I am also hearing mixed opinions about it. My realtor (who is also my father) says there is really nothing wrong with it. But our loan guy said he has heard not-so-good things about it.

From my recollection, Browns Mills is a lot of local Jersians and military families. Is this accurate? The houses I am looking at look cute, clean and safe. Am I wrong in my assumption.

I have heard the high school leaves something to be desired, but heard the elementary schools are pretty decent. We have a one year old daughter. We are planning on staying where ever we move for at least 5-6 years. So I am not sure we will be there when she gets to high school.

If someone can lay it out for me in black and white what this community is like and what kind of people are there it would be much appreciated.

I wouldn't live in Browns Mills. especially if schools are a concern. There are some other towns you could look at that would be better options IMHO - Plumsted and Manchester would be my first two recommendations, but if you want to look a little farther out from Manahawkin (maybe 20 mins further than Browns Mills) then Bordentown would be a good place to look as well. Good luck.

Can you specify why you wouldn't live there? I just want to know what the issue is, because I am hearing 1000 different opinions.

And we were looking at Bordentown too. We would actually prefer Bordentown as it's closer to my husbands work. But Browns Mills houses are way more affordable.

Thank you
