Selling Sliverware for Cash
It's been a while since I last posted. I have a bunch of spoons, knives, and forks as well as a pot that I no longer want or need. I plan on selling them and getting money back in return. I tried my local jewelry exchange place and they said none of then were any good as they were silverware and most of the stuff were stainless steel.
I'm from Elizabeth, but does anyone know of someone or couple of places nearby which could be anywhere in North/Central Jersey that would accept cooking utensils and pay me some good money in return? If you have the name of the place and the town including the address, please let me know. Thanks a lot for your help!

I will be watching to see the answers as I am in the same boat. Cleaning out my mother's old house, I have tons of silverplate trays, silverware, bowls, etc. Because they are silver plate they aren't worth anything. Individually on e-bay things like she has are $6-$10, and there's too much of it for me to deal with that way. It seems like the only other option is to sell it for scrap, for pennies a pound.

My wife and I have been helping her parents dispose of some old silverware and china sets as well as getting rid of some of our old stuff that we no longer want including some jewelry. Basically, if the item has no scrap value as gold, silver, platinum, etc. It is very hard to find anyone to buy it for a decent amount of money. We had one of the places where the guy flat out told us an antique ring my wife had was worth maybe $10 in scrap value, but it was worth much more as a piece of jewelry and he wouldn't feel right buying it from her.
Basically, your only real option at that point is to sell it yourself. Either at a place like a flea market or on EBay. We decided to use EBay and have made some decent money on the items, more on the loose pieces then on the sets as many people have a set that they are missing a certain piece of and are willing to pay good money to complete it.
If you don't want to do EBay yourself, you can always try to find one of those EBay stores where they manage the sale for you on consignment. Their fees range from 10%-50% depending on what and how much you are selling.

Try selling it as a lot. You should have no problem if you provide a detailed list and enough photos. Use the "Buy it Now or Best Offer" option for eBay. List the same ad on craigslist as well. People who run second-hand stores and other places that sell this kind of stuff would prefer to buy in bulk to save time.

I was going to go that route, until my arm felt like it was going to fall off after cleaning just a few of the pieces, and I looked at the boxes of pieces left to do, and decided to scrap the whole idea (sorry I couldn't resist )
