You should have no problem finding a good rental in the Westwood area for that price. Westwood is middle class compared with a lot of the other towns in Bergen. Other areas to look at are the Pearl River area (NY) and in Paramus/Emerson/Maywood areas.

I think you should stick with Westwood. It's a really nice town and no matter which town you rent in Bergen county, you will be paying about the same. They do have a nice downtown. I second the Iron Horse. They have a really nice Sunday brunch. They have nice shops and restaurants, and a Trader Joe's!

If you're willing to drive about 15 min. to work I would rent in Fair Lawn (your budget will get you something nice and it's a good town) or Paramus (great swimming pool in the summer) or Ridgewood (great main st. with lots of cafes and shops, also train to NYC)
I'm a RE agent and live in the area, feel free to email me for more info-

Prospect St in Hackensack has quite a few high rise rentals and young professionals.
Ridgewood has a cute downtown but is also more upscale

Everyone recommending Iron Horse is right. Burgers stuffed with cheese, a bit more refined version of Minneapolis' Juicy Lucys, nuff said. Plus they have beers for local brewery Defiant. They've just reopened after a fire, show em why they're still so loved!

I'd go with renting in Hackensack, Edgewater, or Fort Lee, Hackensack being the most convenient. As far as BC goes anyway.
I wouldn't buy here just yet.
