If they're not getting run over...then they're not getting run over. Is it courteous to completely discount others' experiences by insisting your individual one (or a "friend's") overrides everybody else's experience? That's your personal experience. Here is everyone else's personal experience. And there you have it, right? No matter how awful your experience with shopping carts may have been in the past, this won't retroactively turn back time and change everyone else's positive experience into an awful one. I'm talking in circles here but this one bears some philosophical discussion.

I feel like I'm going all Taoist here but if a cart hits a cart in Shop Rite, do both parties know? Answer: Probably yes. Unless one party is unconscious. Conclusion: Those who have never felt their carts get run into, probably never have gotten their carts run into. This is so weird...why are you trying to convince people that horrible things happen where they live, if they've never experienced these things?

In 38 years I can safely say that I was never once run over by a shopping cart in New Jersey. Scout's honor. Well, 36 years because I spent two years in Pennsylvania which leads me to my next comment, not sure it's relevant...I did have my ankle cut into by a shopping cart once. Not cart/cart contact but perhaps it fits the general category. Anyway...the place this happened in was...Pennsylvania. The Poconos. It was a complete accident. I don't hold the state of Pennsylvania responsible. Anyway...just my own experiences here.
I meant the people acually ran into my leg with one, not kidding! They hit me from behind. Some of the people that live in Manalapan/ Marlboro are just plain mean. Maybe, not the whole state. I don't think it was an accident.
Also the day I was leaving, I made a stop at the Manalapan post office. The line was long. I started to talk to someone and she looked at me why was I talking to her. Later, she did flirt and speak to a man on line that she didn't know. They are just pushy snobs there. Here, its comonplace to talk to people in line and people acually answer back. I've never had a buggy(Shopping Cart) pushed into me here.

Diane, I believe you. I don't have any reason to disbelieve you. I'm simply pointing out that the majority here seem to have never had experiences like this. You have no reason to disbelieve us. Your story was interesting; I don't think it's indicative of the entire state, as you say above (Manalapan/Marlboro). Actually, if you had gone ahead and stated it was just that one town specifically that you had bad experiences in, rather than the entire state, it might have painted a more accurate picture for the purposes of this post, and been a lot more helpful, IMO. You may want to be more careful about that if your aim is to help people make decisions on moving.

I am also sorry that people didn't speak to you in line in that town. People always spoke to me in line. A thought: could it be the vibes one puts out? It's interesting you point out about people talking in line, as that's one thing I lost when I moved away from NJ. Actually, that's something I've spoken about before on here.

For comparison's sake--perhaps geography could be the issue here--the towns I lived in in NJ throughout the course of my life were Hillsdale, Park Ridge, Westwood, River Vale, Tenafly, Edison, Lake Mohawk, Sparta, Succasauna and Budd Lake. Towns I worked in or frequented for various reasons included Emerson, Ramsey, Teaneck, Fair Lawn, Montvale, Westfield, Paramus and Hackensack. These towns all seemed to run contrary in a general way to the complaints you have against Manalapan so perhaps that will be helpful to someone on here.

I sometimes think there are people from NJ that have never visited any other state, other than NY. I know I met people there that had never been to Phiily. Philly was an hour away and I would rather see historic sites than the beach.
There are many of those here. I spend many a morning visiting Antebellum homes, such as the Hermitage, Home of Andrew Jackson. We have an exact Replica of the Parthenon,Parthenon (Nashville - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

I feel more at home here than I ever did in NJ. I do have a History here, I graduated from college here.

I know you love it there........I am happy for you.....
Everyone should aim for complete happiness in life. The object is to live where you are happiest. Some find happiness in other states. Its to each his own preference.
Yes, I have seen your mountains, and rivers. I have been to most of our wonderful states of the USA. Most of us are aware of our geography.
Just a post note on your oil tank. It was not a known fact, nor worried about in the years that they were put in. In fact, people bragged that they had "underground, and not seen" 1000 gal. tanks. They were happy during that time period. The DEP and the leaking oil facts came out late in the game.
To late to save those who were originally glad to have them underground.
It became a big mess for many people. Just something that was not expected, but thats life.
