New to the area. Will be working in Morris Corporate Park in Parsippany. Mapquest doesn't accurately represent commute times from different communities. Budd Lake? Randolph? Kinnelon? Dover? Will be looking for an apartment. Any advice about commute times is appreciated..

Budd Lake: Your commute time will be directly proportional the time you leave in the am and the pm. You leave by 6:30am, you're looking at 30 mins top. You leave at 7:30, it's probably closer to 1 hour.

There are several different ways to skin this cat, Rt 80 being the most direct and the road I base the above times on. But you have the option of Rt 10 (eek) or some back roads through Randolph.

I would suggest if you're looking at Budd Lake, my guess is you're looking at Village Green. I would suggest looking at Oakwood Village in Flanders instead. Maybe 1 minute longer commute, but a nicer complex.

Obviously the other towns you mention will be closer.

Thanks Tahiti! I'll check out Oakwood Village if we go with the Budd Lake area.

Basically, never...

Less flippantly, after 9:15 AM or so heading eastbound, and before 3:30 or so headed westbound. There are exceptions. The ramps from 80 onto 287 are almost always backed up, even in the middle of the afternoon. Afternoon rush hour can start to build around 3 and not peter out until 7, if there's an accident, forget it. Also, the last few years they've been doing paving at night nearish Rockaway. It's taken me an hour to go 2 miles at 11PM on a Friday night in June thanks to this.

I'd figure on an hour or so for a usual morning rush hour commute from Budd Lake to Parsippany, and maybe an hour and 10 to go home. Rt. 80 will be stop and go starting around exit 30 all the way to the 287 interchange most mornings and afternoons. Rt. 10 will be even worse. Rt. 46 isn't so bad but is slow moving due to all the lights. Overall it's just a mess. This is what happens when you take the work-force, job sites, and retail of a small city and sprawl them across multiple townships.

I am familiar with that area. There is a train that runs from Mt. Olive. Look into that.
