Do you have any idea of how much you want to spend? That would help to figure out which area is best price wise.

city-data.com has the information you require.
type in http://www.city-data.com
put in for example parsippany, nj in the search box
crime statistics are at bottom on a chart.

As far as a break in. You can only go by statistics. Im sure at least one house in Irvington (urban hell) has not been broken into. Im sure at least one house in Parsippany (nice) has been broken into. Statistically Im sure that you are much much better off in Parsippany.

wow, what a contrast..and I guess there is no way to prevent a break in huh?

I was just wondering if anyone could give me some idea about mortgage rate. If we would be purchasing a home, how much is the first payment.. how much is the mortgage rate, how many years is this loan goes and how much estimated we have to pay monthly? We might want to look at a home worth $400,000?

Please pardon me asking this... I know crime rates is everywhere..but how possible is to have a stranger climb into your house for robbery or whatever?...Although many would think a small country like Singapore is branded as low crime, but we did had a case of someone breaking into the house in the middle of the night and appeared in our daughter's room, she was then only 4 yrs old... this fear has yet to subside in me.Now she is 13, I couldnt bear to have her out of my sight...wonder if parents out there understand how I feel?

I have done alot of search thru goggle, including typing in south plansfield but the more I look into it,the more confused I got.But now I m getting a better idea and know some of you nice ppl suggesting about Edison. And will also look into Parsippany.

Bbayse, would you be able to provide more detail about property in Northern Edison?Would be highly appreciated.

Ellwood, thanks for the link to the chinese christian church..I will contact them in the day as its almost 4am here (see my stress level?)

BrianG,Yes please send me info.

Ottomobeale, I doubt my husband has the time as he is require to report to office the next day we arrived and schedule to travel shortly..and he has been always making such remarks that, I would be the one staying mostly in the house so he would rather I m the one who feel comfortable in the selection of the house, therefore, the task and responsibility is mine.

I feel soo welcome. Thanks everyone for the assistance to a blind bat like me.

Instead of everybody trying to guess what you would qualify
i would suggest you contact a mortgage broker

If you are very concerned about intruders you can install a security system to your house if it doesn't already have one. The options are endless. You can have the windows and doors wired to trigger the alram when they are opened or broken. The alarm can sound when you are both home or away from home. It can also be connected to a central station where they call the police for you and or fire department if the smoke detectors detect smoke.

Even if you don't put the alarm "ON", you can still hear a chime when a window or door is opened. You can be sitting in your living room and if the window in an upstairs bedroom is opened, you'll hear the chime on the keypads of the alarm.

We have these options and find it very useful when people open and close the front door. Not that they are intruders, but it's always good to know when a door is opened. I could be in my basement office and hear the front door open with the chime.
