TRavel from Jersey City to Roselle/Kenilworth
Hi ;
I am moving to NJ and will be working near the Roselle Park Area. I have been to Jersey City (the Newport area) and I like it . I was thinking of living there and then taking the NJ transit trains to work everyday.
The commute would be an hour but I am alright with that as long as the trains run on time and are safe and reliable.
How would it be to drive from Jersey City to Roselle ? Would I be going against the rush hour traffic ?
Any input and advise and suggestions for alternative places to live in would be very welcome.

NJTransit from JC to Roselle Park.. I don't think there is a station in Roselle Park.. which means that your probably have to get off in Elizabeth and take a bus to Roselle Park.. maybe the 112 or 59 lines from Midtown Elizabeth Train station.. if you drive there, you are right it will be faster as you will be going opposite of traffic.. should prob be about 45 mins.. why not move to closer towns.. there is nothing special about JC.. good luck!!

jstar41 is wrong -- there is an NJ Transit station in Roselle Park on the Raritan Valley line.
Depending on what part of JC you are in, you can take the PATH to Newark and transfer to the NJ Transit train from there. You should consider how you will get from the Roselle Park train station to your workplace, thuogh.
Also, Newport would not be ideal if you are taking the PATH to Newark, as you would have to transfer on the PATH to get to Newark and then transfer again to NJ Transit. You might do better looking closer to the Exchange Place or Grove Street PATH stations.
And there are certanly reasons why one would choose to live in JC over other places. Most importantly, you can be in Manhattan in 5 minutes and there is 24 hour access to the city on the PATH. Someone who is a "city person" and wants fast and convenient access to Manhattan may very well like living in JC better than living in the suburbs where access to NYC isn't as convenient.

I grew up in Roselle; there's always been a lot of rental choices between Roselle & Roselle Park. There's a pretty big apartment complex down Westfield Ave that's almost bordering Elizabeth. Have you looked in that area? By the time you commute, it might be worth living closer.
If going to NYC is what you'd be doing, it certainly isn't far from Roselle Park and shouldn't take long

Hello ;
thanks for the responses. Yes I was looking into areas close to the Grove Street PATH station. Do the NJ transit trains run on time usually ?
I was thinking about Jersey City because it's easy to get rentals there and find roommates - lots of single professionals like myself . And I have friends in NYC and one in Jersey City as well.
Is Elizabeth a nice , safe area to live in ?

yes. NJT Transit trains are very reliable and safe.. I commuted to NYC for about 4 years b4 i moved out there.. 99.7% RELIABLE.. .3% was delayed..
Elizabeth is a large city.. it has good and not so good areas.. the safe areas are Elmora, Elmora Hills, North Elizabeth, Westminister, Bayway sections.. the rest of Elizabeth is under redevelopment w/ a Ferry to NYC on plans for next year.. drive around for yourself.. if you'll be commuting to Roselle Park, look in Elmora, it's 5 mins away from Roselle.. one of my tenants lives in Elizabeth and teaches in Roselle Park.. she loves it here.. but then again that's her point of view.. older folks may not like Elizabeth b/c it's highly populated..
Good Luck!!
