Greetings,

In my town research, I discovered that there was a big radium cleanup in these two towns (West Orange and Montclair) several years ago. However, I can't find much in terms of specific streets. It looks like the cleanup was completed several years ago, but I would still be wary of purchasing a home on a former superfund site. Does anyone know more specifics in terms of streets that were affected? Also, was Verona affected at all? I know it borders these two towns as well.

There are some new houses near the corner of Franklin and Nishuane Rd. They took years and a huge amount of soil away. Probably less radium there now than anywhere else in North Jersey.

It was focused mostly around in and around Carteret Park ( which is on Carteret Street ) in Glen Ridge. Apparently, the EPA did a great job there and radium is no longer an issue.

There are maps available on the EPA website, let me see if I can find them.

Default Superfund sites

You can go on the EPA website to find all the Superfund sites and you will see there are many past and present clean-ups. A good realtor would disclose this information. The Westinghouse site in Bloomfield is just one that I know about.

Thanks, all. It's scary how many sites there are in NJ. Are sellers & realtors legally supposed to disclose if a property is/is near a current/former superfund site?

here is a link for you, when i was a kid in the early 50's I had a paper route in the area. Several of my customers had their lower jaws removed due to cancer from licking the brushes.
