Fair Lawn and Teaneck for sure, no need for a private school despite what others are saying. Teaneck and Fair Lawn schools are just fine.

Teaneck is a good one. There is a large Orthodox Jewish community. My church is next to a Mayanot school and a Torah school. Most of the businesses in the downtown area are owned by Orthodox Jews and of course closed on Saturday.

Springfield is a good option for you. Depending on where you end up, there should be several temples within walking distance. There is also a public Pre-K, and most temples have before/after options. Unlike Millburn, you will pay less, as there is no train station.

How about Millburn? Expensive, but very walkable, great public schools, many synagogues in town and a Jewish school Golda Och Academy nearby in West Orange. Also, there is an awesome JCC that I used to swim at in West Orange near the Codey Arena and Turtle Back Zoo.

Near, New Brunswick, Highland Park is a little more conservative and less expensive though. Has good schools too, but far away from Lodi. . . but on the money train line.

Writing as a non-Jew, but both are great areas for what I think you're looking for.

I would consider Rockland County NY. Tons of hasidic and orthodox jews. Reasonable commute to work

Lakewood isn't 20 minutes from Lodi, and I'm pretty sure it's rapidly decaying in many parts. Lakewood Jews are also overwhelmingly of the ultra-Orthodox variety--not much of a Conservative (or even Modern Orthodox) presence.

How about Passaic? Very close to Lodi and lots of public transportation.

Why is it that I just dont understand people looking at towns based on religion? I must be nuts but I find this strange.

Same here. But people like to "be around their own" so we also have Asian Indians and other groups asking the same types of questions.

One thing you definitely don't have to worry about in most of the populated parts of NJ is diversity. Just look around you.
