We are a Queens, NY family looking for a house in NJ. We have never lived in NJ nor do we travel much to it So, picking a neighborhood/town was very, very difficult. Our budget is under 375K or under. We zeroed in on East Brunswick because of the community, schools, and the value for our money. I work in NYC and willing to give a little in terms of commute for a better value for our money.
Anyways, we like some town houses in the Lexington Village and Colonia Oaks Village. How are these communities? How about proximity to the elementary and pre-k schools? Is the commute to Transportation Center horrible during rush hours?
We are also looking at Lawrence Brook area which has some great lots but the houses leave a little bit more to desire. Most houses within our budget had older kitchens and master bedrooms were a not that grand. The yardage was great.
Any input on Lexington Village and Colonial Oaks Village much appreciated.
I like East Brunswick, I visited there a few times and enjoy the shopping. It is close to some shopping districts so there will be plenty of cars and trucks in the area. Blue Ribbon school district and price is awesome.
For 375 you can take a look Livingston. I am just waiting for the perfect house there.

East Brunswick is a real rich area. I would love to know what the person is talking about that said the "price is awesome".
That said, the school system is nothing to mess with. I believe the only school districts in the area that are ranked better are Metuchen, Highland Pk, and West Windsor-Plainsboro.
Price is definitely awesome when you compare to Metuchen and West Windsor areas. We looked in Metuchen and the only houses available were real fixer-uppers. West Windsor: forget about it!
With that considered, East Brunswick offers decent single family and town homes for the 375K budget.
