Went to buy some screws there. Need 4", found a box on the shelf, picked up a few other things and went to pay. They told me they could not sell me the screws because it was not in their system. It was probably from a different homedepot and someone returned it to this store. I just asked for them to charge me the same price as all of the other screws I was buying since they are all the same price anyway (sold by the pound). The cashier refused.
I really needed them, and I forgot where the closest Lowes was, so I drove to the home depot in Union. Found the screws, and they were all 25% cheaper than garwood. I looks at some other purchases I made in the past, and the garwood store has a 10%-30% markup compared to the Union store 3 miles away.
The place is a dump, never has what I need, and now I find out it charges much more. Why do they even have this store?
Never noticed the price difference between the two stores - but I've had nothing but good experiences at the Garwood location. While the inventory is smaller than the large Union store, its proximity to my town (Westfield) makes it super convenient. Employees seem more professional than some of the clowns at the Union store.
I have had nothing but bad experiences with the garwood store. Bought something on line to be "picked up in store". Got there, and I had to wait 15 minutes while they went in the back to look for it. I could see other ones of the same object right on the sales floor, but they made me wait.
Anytime I went in there, there are always 4 or 5 employees standing in a group talking. I have to interupt to get help.
Might be standard business practice, but just wanted people to know that there is a average 15% markup in that store. Might as well just go a little further to the one in Union or the Lowes that I now know is a little bit away
In general, I have never had issues with Home Depot. Their in-store reps are knowledgable and ready to help (if you can find them). But one needs to set the right expectation wherever they are shopping. Lower prices usually also means less customer service. I can not expect the same level of customer service at Home Depot that I expect at Lowes; or at Walmart compared to Target; or Apple compared to Dell.

I had that exact same thing happen to me at Lowes with the "buy online, pick up in store" promo. I had to wait about 20 minutes and then they brought me out a damaged item so I had to wait another 10 minutes while they went and found an acceptable one. NEVER again. That's not limited to the Home Depot.

waiting 10-15 minutes is normal. no matter where you shop. they need to go back to their storage and spot your package from hundreds of items. be patient!
