Question about replacing an out of state license
My question is not wildly important or anything. It's just bugged me for a while. I'm going to switch my license soon, and I know you have to change it within 60 days. How the heck are they going to know how long you've been in the state? Maybe the answer is right in front of my face, but it's just been perplexing me.
While I'm at it, are the DMV's bad here? Good? Long waits?

Not sure how they'd know your timing. But if you get in an accident and haven't changed for insurance, I know you might have some back-payments or coverage issues.
DMV (renamed MVC at some point in NJ) used to be pretty bad, but it improved significantly in most locations in the last decade. Just make sure you go to the website and verify that you have all the correct/acceptable forms of ID that will be required.

Some Police do make note of license plates on cars in the area they patrol. However if you live in a college town most states do not require college students to apply for a new state license while attending college so its easier to blend in.

Thanks for your answers. Cops taking license plates was the only thing I could think of myself.
And yes, I did the 6 point ID verification thing, so fingers crossed it goes smoothly. I know back home, going to the DMV was never a fun thing (more so, after I got my car hit there while renewing my license. -_-)

When I moved back from Iowa I had my IA license until I moved out of mom's to my new place, which was about 5 months. I didn't want to change it and then change it again after I moved. They did "catch" me with my insurance when they got a change of address mailed back to them but they gave me a few months before I had to change it over and it worked out perfectly.

I have another question, and let me preface it by saying, I am completely ignorant when it comes to this stuff, as my mother has always handled it.
I know I have to get insurance here, do the title and registration business, BUT... that is in my mother's name, so I don't know how I can do that.
Can any older people help me out? I'm stressing out big time, because I'm lost.
