true, but there and some very conservative pockets (like Bergan County), and just because we vote democratize doesn't make us liberal. Plus NJ switches every so many years from being solidly Republican to solidly Democrat.
I had the same thought about both of those things.
Our "very conservative pockets" would be considered flaming liberal in the Deep South.
I'm really baffled by people saying Bergen County's Sunday Blue Laws are a plus. If I could change ONE thing about Bergen County, it would be the lousy Sunday Blue Laws.

If you work retail or live in/near Paramus it is a plus, for everyone else it is a minus. All depends on where you stand -- I agree with you but others might have different interests.

Yea that is true, especially for folks living in Paramus. When it sucks though is that my girlfriend often has to work in the city Saturdays, which leaves us with Sundays to get errands and such done, which means traveling to Hudson or Passaic County, or down to Elizabeth if we need to go to Ikea. Not fun knowing we could go 5 minutes and have it done if places were just open on Sundays.
Could be worse, some Blue Laws in other parts of the country make it so you can't buy beer on Sunday. That's just wrong in every way...
I grew up in Bergen County, and I'm also old enough to remember that supermarkets weren't open on Sunday either at one time. (And I remember when 7-11 was open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., which is why they are named that, kids.)
It never really bothered me because I was used to it, but when I was first out of high school and working and liked to shop, I would go to the Nanuet Mall on Sundays.
As an adult I didn't really care, because I hate malls anyway. I live in Monmouth County now...and there is a mall ten minutes away that I hardly ever go to, Sunday or otherwise.

Yeah growing up it didn't bother me at all either, it was all I knew, and Nanuet was 15 minutes away (have you seen that mall lately???) and then they built Palisades Center. After moving away for about 10 years, coming back to the blue laws has taken some getting used to. I hate malls too, but I hate them even more when I have to go on Saturday and it's absolute carnage because it won't be open the next day.

I can understand how you'd want to go to the Paramus IKEA. The one at 13A is the closest one to me, and it takes about 45 minutes to drive there, Parkway to Turnpike. It was my first trip ever to an IKEA. It's a madhouse over there.
