You are talking anout WIP and Eskin here. Even most Philly fans can't stand Eskin or Angelo Cataldi or WIP...they're clowns who cater to the lowest common denominator and who are paid to start trouble. I prefer listening to Sports Radio 950 instead.

I lived in Bergen and Essex Counties most of my life. My parents moved to Burlington County 5 years ago and I moved here a little over a year ago.

The eagles thing is NUTS. I have never seen anything like it. It's so hardcore that it's on coffee cups at D.D. and you can barely buy a cake at shop rite during the fall that doesn't have eagles in the icing. I can't exactly say it bothers me b/c I don't watch sports, it's just such a crazy thing to witness.

Was I upset that I had to move to South Jersey? Yes. I am getting used to it, but I think in the long run when I get a place of my own I'd prefer more Central Jersey Mercer-Monmouth-Middlesex.

There are little things that will always bug me about the Burlington / Camden county area: people saying words like hoagie, pork roll and water ice. People calling "the city" philly when in my heart it's NYC. But over all, it's not really as terrible as people make it out to be.

If you are gonna move from the north and want a similar feel to wher u live I highly recommend the western spur of Burlington / Camden county: Mount Laurel, Moorestown, Marlton, Maple Shade, Cherry Hill etc. Here you will find good shopping, good places to eat, a few bars, good Philly access etc. basically the stuff you are probably used to where you live now. The main reaction I get from NNJ / NY relatives when they visit "Wow, it's really nice here! I figured you lived on a farm or in the pine barrens and you don't". It's very suburban in this section.

what i don't recommend for a north jersey person who likes north jersey characteristics is really south such as Salem or Cumberland county. I went down there once to do something for work and literally cried. Stores were closed on a Wednesday and it was so rural I felt like I was in Kansas. Not a place for a suburan bergen, essex, passaic county person who wants to feel suburban.

Its a hoagie here in Scranton, PA as well. Although in Scranton, pizza is a "tray" not a "pie." If you ask for a pie around here, you'll be asked if you want pumpkin or apple.

I agree with you but there are a LOT of people from Cumberland and Salem counties that think we are insane for living in Hudson, Bergen, Essex, Passaic.

Definately agree. Some people just like to be rural, God bless em', to each their own. But for me? Now way, no how would I be able to live there. I'd move to PA before moving there

If you don't mind, where exactly are you in SJ? We were planning the Marlton, Cherry Hill area.

Can you elaborate on "not as open minded"?
Cherry Hill and Marlton are both great areas. We are actually in Cherry Hill and do think a lot of things are great about this township.

So you want to know about "not as open minded"....? You are going to make me do this, aren't you? Ok ok....we've heard more than our share of ignorant comments with respect to culture, religion, ethnicity, etc....Now, that's not to say that we didn't meet a few ignorant fools in North Jersey either, but it's definitely more common around here. Leave the Cherry Hill/Voorhees/Marlton area and head south and oh boy....
..and I think we've pounded the sports issue into submission. I've had people totally change their facial expression when they find out I don't like the Philly teams. We met a couple from the area and had dinner with them. The Phillies games was on in the background the girl....not the guy, the GIRL got so fired up that it started with "I hate the Yankees" then later turned into "I hate NY". OK! We were done with her.
Another incident-- was in Wawa and some guy used some inappropriate language with his friend. Well, Ms. South Jersey in front of him, turned around and started saying "you and your foul NY mouth". ..."NY trash" under her breath. MIND YOU, there was zero indication as to where this guy was from. Judging from his accent, I'm sure he was Philly born and raised.
One more incident-- at a public event, a few people with NY apparel on were called "NY ******s" by some guy. One interesting thing I've noticed is that the NY resentment is much stronger with the younger generation. I haven't really figured that out yet...
And one more-- a friend of mine was at a bar watching the last Eagles game and though he wasn't routing for the Eagles, he kept quietly to himself. BUT, since he wasn't cheering and whooping it up when the Eagles were doing well.....three goons came up to him and asked him who he was routing for? He was uncomfortable with the situation so he replied "the Eagles". That is just so sad to me! Are we in like 1960s Alabama here or what?!?

I'm just literally scratching the surface...
Granted, my incidents were probably not with the most educated people and I understand that, but still it's uncomfortable to know those kinds of feelings are around.

The DD by me...there are so many pieces of Eagles "flair" in the door, that you can't even see through!! It is soooooo ridiculous. They even have a donut called "the official" and it's green!! No joke!

Well you are in the Philly area. What do you want? I'm sure in North Jersey you see more Yankees/Mets/Giants/Jets stuff being sold and displayed by businesses. If i moved to NY/North Jersey, even though I'm an Eagles/Phillies fan, I wouldn't get mad about Dunkin Donuts having an official Giants donut with blue and red icing.

Well that's the thing. Go to any 10 DDs in North Jersey and you probably won't see any sports reference anywhere. Remember, NY has multiple teams in everything. Do you have Yankees navy blue or Mets royal blue? Giants blue or Jets green? Rangers blue or Devils red? But even though people love sports in North Jersey, it has its place and that's not in a DD. It's just different. I've learned that. Look, coming from my experiences up north, it takes a long time to get used to. It's one way or the highway and it's never been that way before.
I don't mean to bash bash bash. You love your team and I get that. Try to imagine Philly with two football teams.....weird isn't it??
