I second Montclair, NJ is good spot. If you don't mind the drive, Morristown is good too but uhh NJ highway driving takes a toll with lot of roadragin folks and traffic jams.

Oh dang yeah, Montclair is just a great an option as the Rutherfords. Rent might run you a bit more and it's a much larger and more spread out area but also easy to get to Clifton from and very easy to get into the city. Definitely considered the "artsy" town of north Jersey if anything is gonna be.

Montclair is definitely "artsy" and a very interesting town. It's very convenient to Clifton, also.

But what about Clifton? It's cheaper than Montclair, and since your kids are grown you don't have to worry about the schools. And you can easily visit Montclair anytime. It's right next door! Search for a home near the Upper Montclair border.

Montclair is by far your best option, Morristown is good too, but a distant second. Are people on here really saying Clifton is artsy?

Montclair borders Clifton, so the commute will be awesome. Are you going to be working at ITT?

Nobody on here said Clifton was artsy. They said if you can't afford Montclair, live in Clifton near the Montclair border so you can enjoy what Montclair has to offer and still afford to live.

And not for nothin, Clifton does have its share of live music venues. Lot of my friends perform all over Clifton regularly and I used to play in a band who had a rehearsal space there. Again, not saying it's an "artsy" town, but it ain't dead.
